LIVED TO TELL:

THRIVING AFTER SUICIDE ATTEMPT

Chapter 3 Resources

For Those Struggling with Suicidal Thoughts

ADVICE

I’ve talked to some individuals who have expressed to me they have intrusive or obsessive thoughts of taking their own lives. This is very distressing, to be sure. If you have this experience, of continual or frequent thoughts of suicide, please, please, please let someone know. Someone you trust. Someone who loves you. Or if you prefer, you can call and speak with someone on a suicide prevention or crisis hotline and let them know what you are going through. Please know that this is a symptom of depression and/or another mental illness and it can be treated.

RESOURCES

If you’re in crisis, there are options available to help you cope. You can also call the Lifeline at any time to speak to someone and get support, whether you are in crisis or just need to talk with someone. For confidential support available 24/7 for everyone in the United States, call 1-800-273-8255. You can also text “WORDS” to 741741 if you would rather text, than talk.
Some steps you can take to HELP YOURSELF include finding a therapist or support group, building and using a personal network of support, making a safety plan and learning more about each of these steps.
